Getting to PRESPA
The closest city to Prespa/Prespes is Florina, where there is reliable public (bus and train) transport every day from Athens and Thessaloniki. There is no bus connection or any other form of public transportation from Florina to Prespes.
The organizing team will inform you about bus schedules or alternative ways of traveling from Florina to Prespes and from Prespes to Florina as soon as we have a clearer picture of where the participants will be staying.
Airports
The nearest international airport is in Thessaloniki (Makedonia Airport, SKG). From that point, it is approx. a 3 hours’ drive to Prespes. Athens is approx. 7 hours by car. There is public transportation connecting Thessaloniki with Florina. The approx. 45 mins required to cover the distance from Makedonia Airport (SKG) to the Train and Bus stations in the opposite (west) part of Thessaloniki should be taken into account. There is an express bus line (01N, 01X) that connects the two areas (http://oasth.gr/#en/routeinfo/list/61/12/73).
Ioannina National Airport is also within a three hours’ drive from Prespes but there is no public transportation connecting Ioannina and Florina.
There are two other local airports (Kozani and Kastoria, approx. 2 and 1 hour(s) respectively from Prespes with limited number of flights per week.
In total, if someone decides to travel to Prespes from Ioannina, Kozani or Kastoria, it is advisable to rent a car.
